From its very beginning, Punjab Public School has been a member of the IPSC. Initially called Sainik School, it was only for boys with 550 hostel seats, including few day school girls and staff children, a residential school. The school was founded in 1960 in order to provide the deserving children of ex-servicemen with quality public school education, serving defense forces workers and civilians. Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the then Chief Minister of Punjab, was the guide at the opening of this school. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the President of India, formally inaugurated the school in April 1961. The school was funded in its initial stages by the Post-war Services Reconstruction Fund and the Punjab Government made former Nabha rulers' buildings (the Secretariat and the Guest House) and land available to the school and offered significant financial assistance as well.
As the 8th Headmaster of the Punjab Public School, it is a pleasure for me to be at the helm of matters. The school has a rich history that goes back 60 years. A galaxy of illustrious professionals in various fields, be it security, technology, journalism, business, academia, or any other, has been developed by the school. The founding fathers' vision lives on. Straight from the headmaster's founder, Padma Shri JK Kate, to my immediate predecessor, Dr. Jagpreet Singh, every head shaped the school in tandem with the changing world to the very best.
I take the reins of this prestigious institution to take it to new heights, stimulated by the belief that the school has many achievements to accomplish. In this joint venture, I humbly implore the cooperation of all. I sincerely hope that the re-opening of the school will bring life back to the campus after an eight-month-long hiatus.
